How do I host Josh for a local experience during the Through Your Eyes World Tour?
Intro
The thrill of experiencing the world and trying out various activities, whether part of a new culture or just for pure fun, is what drives me. Equally significant is the joy of learning about the stories that underpin these experiences. Whether a grand adventure or a small, meaningful activity, both are equally important and never considered insignificant.
I’m always eager to uncover the answers to questions beneath the surface, and experiential activities help me discover new perspectives to answer questions. One of the critical topics we’ll cover today is the post-activity retrospective. This crucial step allows us to reflect on and learn from the experience, fostering engagement and reflection. So, let’s start by discussing the registration process, a dull but essential step.
Registration
If you haven’t registered yet you will need to go through this section. On the Tour Participant Registration form you will see a list of cities. Click on the city or cities you are thinking about participating in. A list of ways that you can participate will pop up. Pick the “Share a local (city name) experience with Josh,” if anything else catches your eye, maybe consider signing up for that as well. If there isn’t a local experience opportunity in your city, you could choose a nearby city instead. Activities are listed in the evening, but we can adjust the schedule to do an activity the following morning if that is better.
Backup Activity Host
Suppose the city where you want to host an activity has already been taken. In that case, you can register as a backup activity host. If something comes up and the primary host cannot host us, we will let you know as soon as possible.
Planning
After you register, a member of the Through Your Eyes World Tour team will reach out to you and coordinate a time for a collaborative planning session. We will learn about your ideas for a local experience during this session and share our feedback. Once we settle on a general plan, we will discuss the details to bring our shared experience to life. We will also follow up as we approach the activity day to ensure any last-minute details are coordinated.
Activity types
I talked about the kind of local experience earlier. I want to clarify some information. You don’t need to worry about doing an expensive activity. Something small is excellent. We can learn more about a culture if that is what you want! I would love to learn more about your family’s culture and heritage and to see the world through your eyes. That is the reason I am going on this tour. Activities can take many forms: historical, cultural, heritage, environmental, recreational, archeological, religious, service, or another form you think of. Don’t try to figure out what I will enjoy. Instead, focusing on sharing something you love and that you would like to share with me.
Meet Up
When the day of our shared experience comes, we will begin by meeting up. This is an exciting opportunity to connect and get to know each other better. Whether we meet at a park, a local bike store, or your chosen activity location, the joy of the meetup is something I’m looking forward to.
We will get to know each other a little during the meetup. You’ll learn that I am painfully bad at remembering names. We can also coordinate any last-minute logistics. Once we’ve agreed on the activity location, we can figure out how to get to it. We can follow you to the area in the SAG Wagon, or you can provide us with the address so we can meet you there.
What Is The Activity?
You will be talking to my parents about the activity not me so you get the chance to surprise me. When will I learn what the activity is? Well, you can tell me whenever you want. During the meetup, maybe while we travel to the location, or you could talk to me after we arrive. We can see how well that goes.
Why Did You Choose This Activity?
I want to see this experience from your perspective. Why is the activity meaningful to you. What is the backstory associated with it? Stories, whether true or not, are vital; they teach us life lessons and social skills and provide a more profound understanding. We have all heard of the fabled boogi man, who is out to take all the misbehaving children. That story is meant to teach children to behave as if there are consequences to their decisions. I can’t wait to hear your stories because I’m eager to learn more about who you are and see the world through your eyes.
Preparing for The Activity
I am not a natural at every activity, even if I pretend I am. So, I will need to learn how to do the activity. Preparation could consist of a simple orientation consisting of a few sentences or a whole rule book to understand a complex game. I am usually a quick learner, so I should quickly catch on to the idea so we can focus on enjoying the experience.
Experience The Activity
It’s finally time to actually experience the activity! I can’t wait to try out whatever is planned. This section is short because the details will be based on your chosen activity, and time flies when we are having fun! If you have an idea for an activity, please go to Tour Participant Registration and sign up to share it in a city near you!
Post-Activity Retrospective
After the activity, we will talk about the experience. My family does something called “Good, Bad, Uglies,” where everyone shares what they thought was good, bad, and ugly about an experience. Mom hates “Good, Bad, Uglies,” but they are not as bad as the name makes them sound. It is an opportunity to improve by reflecting on what we really enjoyed, what we didn’t like, and how we could build on or improve it in the future.
Departure
After the activity, we will unfortunately have to depart for the next segment of the tour. We will part ways at that time unless you want to ride a bike 500 miles with me. Even though we part, the memories and the fun we had will last forever!
Documenting the Journey
I plan to document the journey, including my experiences with you, using video, photography, the spoken word, and writing. The content I capture will be used to share the tour experience with a global audience on my website and social media channels. I know a camera can be scary, but I invite you to ignore it and go on as you would if it were not present.
Outro
After this experience with you, the perspectives I look at the world through will have expanded. I am excited to learn more about you and to share what I discovered with others! I hope you have learned something from this article, and if you are considering sharing an experience with me on the tour, it will help you decide.
Josh Taylor – signing off.
